Nancy Irene Pless Keener, 74, of Kannapolis, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at home with family.

She was born on October 28,1950 to the late Council Lee Pless & Mildred Lee Pless of Kannapolis, North Carolina.

Nancy graduated from South Rowan Senior High School. She was employed by Fieldcrest-Cannon Milll as an inspector in the washcloth department until the mill’s closure in 2003. Nancy then attended Rowan Cabarrus Community College for Medical Office Administration. She worked for the following 10 years at Northeast Endocrinology until her retirement.

In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed helping & serving others. She was often found to be sewing & mending clothes as well as baking and decorating birthday & wedding cakes for family and friends. She also served as the family hair stylist. She found great joy in crocheting baby blankets and gifts for loved ones.

Nancy loved taking trips to various places. She especially enjoyed a yearly vacation to North Myrtle Beach at Peppertree by the Sea where she served as a member of the Homeowner’s Association. For over 35 years, Nancy enjoyed building lifelong friendships with others at Peppertree and made priceless memories during those annual vacations with her family.

After suffering from a stroke in 2018, Nancy’s health began to decline. Throughout her declining health, she still enjoyed getting out and taking as many trips as possible. She treasured her time with friends and family. Nancy was able to remain at home being cared for by her husband and family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Clarence Keener; daughters Traci Brumbles (Tracy) and Lisa McCoy (Tim); three grandchildren: Brandi Messori (Giovanni), Cori Almond (Zack), Caleb McCoy (Alyssa); and five great grandchildren: Jaydon, Hunter, Lillie, Pearson and Rylie; brothers Gary Pless (Judy), Dale Pless (Sue); and beloved niece who became like a daughter, Sherry Hibbard, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family is thankful for the love and support of family and friends as well as Trellis Supportive Care.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home followed by the funeral service in Whitley’s Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Rabon officiating. The burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
