Morris Roosevelt Jones

Morris Roosevelt Jones, 92, of Faith Community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 27, 2025 at Liberty Commons in Salisbury, NC after 4 months of declining death.

Morris was born on February 26, 1933, in Buncombe County. He was a cherished son of the late Winfred (Winnie) Lee Jones and Martha June Gibbs Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty Brown Jones and daughter, Cathy Elaine Jones; brothers, Winfred Jones, Joe Jones and Bill Jones; sisters, Ruby J. Powell, Dixie J. Jordan; and grandson, Dawayne Combs.

Morris was a U.S. Army veteran, a skilled loom fixer at Cannon Mills, and an exceptional carpenter who could build anything with his hands. Morris was a lifelong bluegrass musician; he could play nearly any instrument and loved making music with friends over the years. His talent, warmth, and easygoing spirit touched everyone who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Morris F. (Moses/Babe) Jones and his wife, Dale; granddaughter, Christie Sloop; great grandchildren, Christopher Greer, Casey Combs, Hunter Combs, T.J Allman; great-great grandchildren, Aubrey and Caleb Greer; brothers, Jack Jones, Clyde Jones, and Charles Jones; and special friends, Judy Bouldin and Lorie Jones.

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm-1:30pm on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. The funeral service will begin immediately following the visitation at 1:30 with Rev. Tommy Gibbs officiating. Burial will be at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell.
