Obituary

Mitchell “Mickey” Wayne Watts, 86, of Concord, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026.

Mickey was born on December 5, 1939, in Tabor City, NC. He was a cherished son of the late Burris Caines and Margaret Edwards Garrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Garrell; sister, Louise Beale; and stepson, Jeremy Lanier.

Mickey was a proud graduate of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy; he dedicated his life to serving others through healthcare and business leadership. In 1970, he became owner of Medical Center Pharmacy in Concord, building what would grow into nine pharmacies and durable medical supply companies across North and South Carolina.

Mickey was a passionate advocate for the pharmacy profession and a strong supporter of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association, serving as president from 1995 to 1996. He also established the Pharmacy Network Foundation, which continues today by funding scholarships and supporting pharmacy schools throughout the Carolinas. His leadership and generosity helped countless students and professionals pursue careers in pharmacy.

In addition to healthcare, Mickey had a passion for developing commercial architectural buildings and projects throughout the region.

Though accomplished in business, Mickey was a cowboy at heart. A world traveler who especially loved the American Southwest, he found his greatest joy outdoors hunting, fishing, and spending time with family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Linda Hall Watts; daughter, Melisa Watts Overcash (Tommy); son, Mitchell Watts (Lee); stepdaughter, Regan Delaney; grandchildren, Casey Overcash Nifong, Corey Overcash, Candice Overcash, and Camille Overcash, Laithan Delaney, Brayden Delaney, Gracie Oliver and Payton Ward; great-grandchildren, Sadie, Christian, Alex; brothers, Jerry Garrell and Phillip Caines; and sisters, Kathy Carter, Libby Payne, and Judy Batchelder.
