Mildred Mccombs

Obituary: Mildred White McCombs, 82, of Kannapolis, North Carolina died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 12 at CMC-Northeast. Born on April 1, 1930 in Hickory, North Carolina, Mildred was the youngest daughter of Paul and Gertrude White. Raised in Hickory, NC, Mildred graduated from Hickory High School and Lenoir Rhyne College with a degree in elementary education. Mildred was a teacher for 33 years including 30 years teaching third grade in the Kannapolis City School System at Jackson Park Elementary School. She was so proud of her many former students and all that they had achieved. She was a longtime member of the NC Education Association, the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority and an active member of the Retired Teachers Association. In later years her continued passion for teaching was evident as she served as a reading mentor for adults. Mildred was a devout member of Kimball Lutheran Church, a member of the Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class and a founding member of the JOY club at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Elizabeth Huddle Circle and was the current president. Mildred was preceded in death by her late husband Carl Daniel McCombs, Sr. Surviving are two children, Carl Daniel McCombs, Jr. (Brenda) and Lisa McCombs Dunlow (Ed) of Kannapolis, NC. She is survived by 5 grandchildren Jessica and Ginger Dunlow, Kelly Moore (Corey), Michael Lange (Cheryl) Tom Lange, and nine great grandchildren, James, Nickolas, Patrick and Caroline Moore, Carson Lange, Christopher, Meradith, and Malorie Adkins, and Baylin Barnhardt. She was a favorite aunt of Cathy McCombs Young and Tammy Huffman, who appreciated her frequent motherly love and advice. Visitation: Family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 6:00pm - 8:00pm on Friday December 14. Service: A graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park will be held at 10:00 on Saturday, December 15, 2012, with the memorial service following at 11:00am, at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church, 101 Vance Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church Building Fund or Kannapolis Education Foundation, 100 Denver St., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
