Michael Douglas Bond loving father, husband and son and friend passed away peacefully after a long illness on October 28, 2022 at age 59. A long-time resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, he was a native of Bloomington Illinois.
He served in the U.S. Navy in San Diego and honorably discharged with the distinguished rank of second class petty officer. He was a naval aviation electrician working on A4 Skyhawks for Fighter squadron 126, the Pacific Fleet Adversary for Top Gun before finishing his Naval career aboard the USS Ranger servicing F-14 Tomcats with Fighter Squadron VF-1.
Upon leaving the military, he continued his career in aviation maintenance with US Airways that led him to settle in Charlotte, North Carolina. Changes in the airline industry may have prompted a move out of state which he declined due to his strong dedication of providing a stable home and living for his family. He eventually found an opportunity to continue his career as an aircraft mechanic allowing him and his family to remain in Charlotte.
His favorite place was with his family especially when he was at the beach particularly on the water but was also an avid golfer and card player. His other favorite pastime was giving his friends and family members a hard time. He loved to make people laugh and was known to be a jokester and prankster. He took meticulous pride in his work and doing things the right way and frequently took new people under his wing to pour into them with wisdom not just with mechanical knowledge but also about life. He always had a heart for the homeless and attended Mecklenburg Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sharla, his son Greyson, parents Arthur and Janet Bond, and sister Sandra “Kris” Bond Bales along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Teresa Lynn Bond.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 1 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military graveside rites will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
