Obituary: Max Sloan Overcash, 80, of Salisbury formerly of Kannapolis, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, July 17, 2017 from Genesis Healthcare after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 22 at Faith Baptist Church in Kannapolis with Rev. James Pauley officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. His family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday prior to the funeral. Max was born September 25, 1936 in Iredell Co., a son of the late Fred and Oleta Ketchie Overcash. Max was a longtime area resident and member of Faith Baptist Church, where he coordinated the church bus ministry for many years. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving stateside as an MP during the early years of the Vietnam War. Max worked for Fiber Industries/ Hoescht-Celanese for about 25 years until he retired as an inspector. He loved to raise Blue Tick Hounds and run them while "Coon hunting". Max was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his 9 brothers. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Fesperman Overcash, his daughter Ginger Honeycutt Taylor (Tim) of China Grove and his son Reid Overcash (Leah) of Salisbury. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and his two sisters; Betty O. Bentley and Patricia Overcash. Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
