Mary Louise (Smith) Irvin

Mary “Louise” Smith Irvin, 92 of Concord went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 22, 1931 in Cabarrus County, NC  a daughter of the late John Thomas Smith and Lucy Boger Smith. Also preceding her in death was her husband of over 50 years, Boyce “Red” Wayne Irvin and a sister, Frances Ruth Smith Widenhouse.

She was a longtime member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church. She was a graduate of Concord High School and was employed at Odell School Cafeteria, Concordia Leg Apparel, and Sossamon Hoisery. She met her husband at a NASCAR race where he was driving, she enjoyed skating, fishing and playing in the creek on her farm. She was known for her Black Forest Cake!!.

She also was known for her gardening, canning food and taking care of her family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Gilwood Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Charles Blasdell, pastor, and Rev. Wesley Shell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home Tuesday, March 19, 2024 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include two daughters; Nancy Louise Irvin Seaford and husband David of Concord, Wanda Irvin Correll and husband Charles of Concord, a brother in law,   David “Dink” Widenhouse of Concord. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Charles “Benjy” Correll and wife Susan, Amanda Phillips and husband Bobby, Kelly Mitchell and husband Todd, David Seaford, II and wife Jessica, eight great grandchildren; Landon Mitchell and (Laney), Bryson Mitchell and (Hannah), Charlie Correll ( Ashley), Zac Correll, Colton Roberts  and wife Tegan, Emma Roberts ( Eli), Gabriel Seaford and Elijah Seaford.

“ The family would also like to express a special thanks to her caregivers”.
