Mary Ann Sorrow Sager, aged 85, of Kannapolis, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at her home.

Born on August 8, 1939, in Concord, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late James Ernest Sorrow and Mary Elizabeth Rivers. She dedicated her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse at the W.G. Bill Hefner V.A. Hospital, where she served for 25 years before continuing her nursing career at Big Elm for several additional years. Mary was a proud graduate of Landis High School and obtained her nursing degree from the Cabarrus School of Nursing.

Throughout her life, Mary found joy in a variety of activities. She loved spending time at the beach, indulging in shopping trips, and enjoying watching television with her cherished fur babies. Above all, Mary held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, pouring affection and love into her family.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Sager, in 1997.

Mary is survived by her loving son, Christopher Sager, and his wife, Debbie, who provided remarkable care for Mary over the years. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Heather Wilson (Jeremy), her grandson, Ryan Sager, her two great-granddaughters, Emily and Elizabeth Wilson, as well as siblings Jim Sorrow (Brenda), Tricia Greene, Jack Sorrow (Linda), Janet Brooks (Joey), and numerous nieces and nephews, She also leaves behind her fur babies, Brownie Mae and Scooter.

A funeral service will be held to honor Mary on Monday, August 11, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Steve Leigh officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. A visitation will take place prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus Co., located at 5003 Hospice Ln., Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the hospice caregivers, particularly Madison Allman, whose support was a true blessing during this time.
