Mary Katherine London

Mary Katherine Smith London, 97, of Salisbury, NC and formerly of Laurel Springs and Concord, passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 after several years of declining health.

Born in Iredell County on June 20, 1928, Katherine was the daughter of the late Lewis Edgar Smith and Mary Elizabeth Hamilton Smith.

In addition to her parents, Katherine is preceded in death by her loving husband of seventy years, Richard Brown London, her brothers Clyde and Lloyd Smith, and her sisters, Polly Brown and Lucy Carver. She is survived by her son, Daryl London of Wilkesboro; daughter, Lori Weaver and husband, Ken, of Salisbury; grandchildren, Matt London and wife, Katie, of Lake Orion, Michigan; Brent London of Concord; Anna Graham and husband, Jon, of Burlington; Elizabeth Page and husband, Josh, of Indian Trail; Caleb London of Jefferson, and five great-grandchildren.

Katherine helped her husband, Richard, with raising Christmas trees in the mountains of North Carolina and with other entrepreneurial work. She was a dedicated mother and caregiver for her family. Katherine loved church, sewing and cross stitching, flower gardening, birdwatching, singing, playing the piano and basketball.

Service: A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 29th at Unity Methodist Church Cemetery in Kannapolis.

Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis is assisting the family.
