Mary Fowler Bassinger

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Mary Fowler Bassinger, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at her home. She was born November 10, 1932 in Gaston County, NC, the daughter of the late James Mack Fowler and Lucile Brice Fowler. Mary with her late husband, Jim Bassinger, owned & operated the former Bassinger Realty in Kannapolis for forty years. In earlier times she worked in the office of the former Cannon Mills Company. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she served on the Nominations Committee, the J.L. Smith Sunday School Class, and active in many other leadership roles at the church over the years. She had also volunteered with the Cooperative Christian Ministries over time. Many of her friends fondly remember her love of playing bridge and participating in a book club over the years. Mary owned a place at the beach and at Lake Norman throughout the years where they loved to entertain their many friends. In addition to her parents and her late husband, she is preceded in death by one brother, Robert Glen Fowler; one sister, Maxine Fowler Bryant. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Kirk Tutterow and Rev. Don Shuman. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the church prior to the service. Survivors include two nieces, Barbara Price & husband, Scott of Davidson, NC; Marian Banks & husband, David of Galax, VA; three nephews, David Bryant & wife, Nancy of Asheboro, NC; Jeff Bryant & wife, Barbara of Winston-Salem, NC; and Gerald Bryant & wife, Barbara of Hickory, NC; five great-nieces; three great-nephews; nine great-great-nieces; and six great-great-nephews.
