Martin “Luther” Frye, 98, of Kannapolis, died Monday, November 18, 2024 after a period of declining health.

Luther was born May 16, 1926 in Cabarrus County. He was the son of the late Nash and Elizabeth Frye. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Alice Clontz Frye; his son, Dr. Rev. Michael Frye; his sister, Ruth Smith and his brothers, Dewey, Craig and Linn.

After graduating from Winecoff School, Luther joined the military. He was a member of the 42nd Rainbow Division who Liberated the concentration camp in Dachau, Germany. He was a proud veteran of the U.S Army.

Luther was a lifetime member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, whereas, he was a very active member throughout the years. He really enjoyed the Happy Age Seniors, and Sunday School. He loved his church family and was known as “Mr. Luther.”

He worked at Cannon Mills in the #1 weave room for 45 years and part time at Par Service Station in Kannapolis.

Luther was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his sons, Gary Frye (Debbie) of Concord; David Frye (Susan) of Oxford, New York; Joe Frye (Carolyn) of Mint Hill; his daughter, Karen F. Overcash (Mike) of Kannapolis; his daughter- in-law, Judy Sloop Frye of Waxhaw; and his sister-in-law Faynell Frye of Kannapolis; 10 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A funeral Service will be held at Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church, China Grove at 2:00pm on Monday, November 25th with Reverand  Tim Kneuss and Reverand Kay Overcash officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12:00-1:30 before the funeral.
