Martha W. Stricker went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 22, 2024 at the age of 93 after a short illness.
Martha was born July 20, 1930 in Kannapolis, NC to the late Hamilton R. Workman and Alice Orlean Sides Workman.
She was a graduate of Winecoff High School and North State Business College. She was previously employed by Bethany Lutheran Church, Kannapolis, Kerr Bleachery, Concord, and Cannon Mills, Kannapolis.
Martha married the love of her life A.D. Stricker on November 10, 1950 at her childhood home in Kannapolis. Together they had two children, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was affectionally called “Nannie” by her grand and great grandchildren.
She was a charter member of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Elder and Church Treasurer for many years. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved tending her garden flowers, hobby ceramics, sewing, traveling, rescuing cats and served as the caretaker of the Sides Family of Cabarrus County Genealogy for many years.
Martha was preceded in death by her mother, father and husband A.D. Stricker of 54 years. She is survived by her son William D. (Bill) Stricker (wife Sharon) of Kannapolis, daughter Janet Stricker Barbee (husband Mike) of Kannapolis, grandchildren Allison Stricker Hammett (husband Alan) of Kannapolis, Adam Stricker (wife Anna) of Charlotte, Michele Barbee Broadbent (husband Chris) of Locust, Meredith Barbee Milam (husband Greg) of Landis, great grandchildren Malaina Meeks of Kannapolis, Caelyn and Robert Hammett of Colorado, Wyatt, Aiden and Henry Stricker of Charlotte, and Leigha and Tristian Milam of Landis, NC.
Whitley’s Funeral Home Kannapolis is handling the arrangements. Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday January 27th from 12:30 to 2:00 pm at Whitley’s. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 pm in Whitley’s Chapel following visitation. The Reverend Dennis Craft will officiate the service. Following the service, she will be interred at Carolina Memorial Park Concord, NC.
