Marjorie Elaine (Teal) Culp

Marjorie Elaine Teal Culp, 99 years old, of Salisbury, previously of Kannapolis, went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2023.  Marjorie was born on November 12, 1923, in Baden, NC to the late Thomas M. and Myrtle Watts Teal.

When Marjorie was two years old, her family moved to Kannapolis.  She attended Mclver Elementary School and J.W. Cannon High School, where she graduated in 1940.  After high school, she took a business course, then was employed in the Tabulating Department of Cannon Mills.

It was at Cannon Mills that she met her future husband, Bill Culp. Marjorie and Bill were married in 1942.

Besides her position at Cannon Mills, Marjorie also worked as the church secretary at Jackson Park Methodist Church, and as the first school secretary at Jackson Park Elementary School. The Culp’s home was in the Jackson Park section of Kannapolis and they were one of the early members of Jackson Park Methodist Church.   In her retirement, she was a longtime volunteer with the Cooperative Christian Ministries.  After 52 years in the same home, Marjorie moved to Trinity Oaks Retirement Community in 2003.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Bill Culp in 1983; her sister, Marvelle Teal Patterson; and her brothers, Thomas “Tom” and James “Bo” Teal.  Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Georgeann “Gigi” Brandon, and her husband Tom; her son, Steve Culp, and his wife Mary; her five grandchildren, Ann Chow and her husband George, Laura Smith and her husband Jerry, Emily Ashby and her husband Steve, Matthew Brandon and his wife Maggie, and David Brandon and his wife Ginny, and ten great grandchildren, Sofia, Owen, Sammy, Brantley, Mara, Eve, Maretta, Crosby, Wally and Emmett.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 16, 2023, from 1-2pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 2pm in the Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel.  Entombment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Cooperative Christian Ministries, PO Box 1717 Concord, NC 28026-1717 in Marjorie’s memory.
