Margie Alice
Fox
May 15, 1953 — Oct 16, 2026
Margie Alice [Lastinger] Fox died peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, October 16, 2026 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, North Carolina. She was 73.
The youngest of Betty Jane (nee Clark) and David Lee Sutherland’s six children, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Terence (Terry), Samuel (Sam), and William (Bill); and sisters MaryKatherine (Katy) and Ruth. She is survived by her son Chris Fox (Boise, Id), nephew Corey Cox (Concord, NC), nieces Diane Sutherland (Eureka, Ca) and Kristie Gonzales (Atlanta, Ga), and many other extended family members and loved ones.
She and her twin sister Ruth were born in Alberquerque, NM, and spent their childhood all over the US and Germany. Her father was an Army/Air Force news editor and the family moved as the job demanded, which was frequently! They moved from New Mexico to Maryland, then Ohio, Pennsylvania, Long Island NY, and Germany before finally settling in southern California when the twins were just 8. Tragically, both her parents passed while the twins were still teenagers, and Margie moved in with her brother’s family to finish high school. After graduating, she visited family near Erie PA where she started what would be a successful career in banking. She worked in banks all over southern California - Orange County specifically - for several decades. She had her son Christopher with her second husband, Douglas Fox, fairly late in life; and after retiring, she moved to North Carolina to live with Ruth and her husband.
She was a loving, and caring mother. Chris was the apple of her eye, and the center of her life. Chris was by her side, caring for her at home in China Grove, NC in her last months.
Margie was known for her flair in cooking and fashion, and passion in everything she did, especially her holiday events. She hosted many a holiday feast with her sister Ruth - they were constant companions and even a bit competitive about who could host the most fabulous meal. She will be remembered for those amazing feasts, her love of sparkle, pink and gold, her determination and strong opinions, and her signature “Love you more” at the end of a conversation.
The family will gather for a remembrance next spring. Please sign the guestbook to receive updates. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a cancer research center of your choice.
