Margaret Mary Raitz

Margaret Mary Hock Raitz, 82, of Kannapolis, North Carolina died July 29, 2025. Born February 9, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio. 

Her education included Rosary and Watterson Catholic High Schools (Columbus), Ohio University (Athens), and Central Piedmont Community College (Charlotte). She worked many years at UNC-Charlotte in the Drama and Kinesiology Departments.

Margaret leaves behind her sons, Brian E. Raitz (Christa), grandchildren Jack L. Raitz (Claire) and Ellie C. Raitz (Micah) of WV; Paul J. Raitz, III of Kannapolis; Chad E. Raitz (Suzanne), granddaughter Anna, of Kannapolis; and Jason C. Raitz (Rhiannon) of Canton, NC. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Paul Joseph Raitz, Jr. her father Charles Hock, mother Esther (Courtney) Hock, and brother Robert Hock. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her brother Charles “Bud” Hock (Linda) of Columbus, Ohio and her close cousin Butch Lewis (Suzie) of Columbus.

 Margaret belonged to Saint James Catholic Church (Concord), Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Salisbury), and Saint Joseph Catholic Church (Kannapolis) while living in NC. Faith was always a big part of her life as she taught confirmation class, an RCIA group, and the Eucharistic Ministry. She often talked about her faith journey and education where the Franciscans (Rosary) taught her to pray and the Dominicans (Watterson) taught her to think.

 Visitation will be held at Whitley’s Funeral home at 2pm on Sunday, August 3rd and a funeral Mass will be on Monday August 4th at 11am at Saint James Catholic Church, Concord, NC. Margaret will be laid to rest at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Tiffin, Ohio alongside her husband Paul. Memorials may be made to St. James Catholic Church Concord, NC.
