Lillian “Nina” Rhodes, 97, of Kannapolis, died Monday, July 22, 2019 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis after a period of declining health.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, July 25 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:30 to 1:30 PM prior to her funeral.
Nina was born September 22, 1921 in Genoa Italy, the daughter of Major General Agatino Di Gandolfo and Maria Leverone Di Gandolfo. She study 5 years at Florence University; studying archeology. She met and married M. S. Rhodes in Florence, Italy in 1946. She emigrated to the U.S., settling in Kannapolis with her husband. They became members of Franklin Heights Baptist Church in 1948 and she worked for Belk Dept. Store, eventually becoming a department manager, retiring after 40+ years. Nina was the most selfless person, always giving 100% of herself to her family and others. She will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Nina was preceded in death by her husband, Millis S. Rhodes.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Mary Cauble of Belmont, her granddaughter, Michelle Laney (Greg) of Belmont, her grandson, Chris Cauble (Melanie) of Kannapolis and her grandchildren, Seth Cauble, Matthew Laney and Sophia Cauble.
