Lewis Dale Baucom, 84, of Salisbury, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kernersville.

Lewis was born on December 14, 1941, in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, to the late Marley Washington Baucom and the late Mag “Nola” Huneycutt Baucom. He graduated from W. R. Odell High School in Concord, North Carolina, and continued his education at Wingate College and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte before proudly serving his country as a medic in the United States Army. During his military service, he and his wife, Dona, made their home in Arlington, Virginia.

Following his military service, Lewis began a career as an electronic technician. Throughout the years, he worked for RCA, Sears, and General Electric (GE), where he enjoyed working with technology and took pride in his work.

Lewis and Dona made their home in Matthews, North Carolina, where they raised their family before later settling in Salisbury. Together, they enjoyed a love of travel and shared many adventures with his sisters and their spouses, as well as cherished lifelong friends. They traveled throughout the United States, Hawaii and the Holy Land, and enjoyed cruises throughout the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Lewis shared that love of travel with his family, creating treasured memories that will be remembered for years to come.

Lewis enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—walking outdoors, traveling with family and friends, and spending time with his dogs. Their loyal companionship was a constant source of enjoyment throughout the years. He also enjoyed staying active and participated in 5K races with his daughter, Patrice, creating special memories they shared together. He had a great sense of humor and was known for giving everyone a nickname and using his own unique vocabulary. His sayings often brought smiles and laughter and will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him. His lifelong love of animals made Faithful Friends Animal Sanctuary a fitting place to honor his memory.

He is survived by his children, Patrice Spillane (Sean) of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Marcia Brown of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina; his grandchildren, Stephan Mosher, Jonathan Mosher, Michael Brown, Cory Brown, and Kayla Brown; six great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Barbara Gamble (Michael) and Dianne Roper (Tom). He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 59 years, Dona Harriette Shore Baucom.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Kannapolis, 101 North Main Street, Kannapolis. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Dr. Thomas Cabaniss. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery, 601 Mt. Olivet Road, Kannapolis.
