Lawrence (Larry) John Valentine, 81, of Concord NC passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at his residence.
Larry was born in Lackawanna, (Erie County) NY as the son of the late Alexander Valentine and the late Julia Krzyczkowski Valentine. He was the husband of the late Virginia Ann Sobolewski Valentine. They had three children: Lawrence John Valentine Jr. (Sheri), (sons Alexander, Daniel) of Mint Hill, NC, Michael Charles Valentine of Holly Springs, NC, and Rebecca Ann Plotner, deceased (Kevin of Chattanooga, TN, sons Gage (Ashley), Cooper).
Larry graduated from Cleveland State University with bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering and worked as a Structural Engineer in the heavy industrial construction field.
After retirement he formed a partnership company that manufactured and marketed a shrinkage-compensating concrete component for use in the construction of specialty structures.
Larry was a licensed Professional Engineer in eleven states and a member of the American Concrete Institute where he served on three committees - Shrinkage Compensating Concrete, Environmental Structures, and Concrete Durability.
He has published several concrete articles in his area of expertise in technical magazines, and chaired technical presentations, and made presentations to various professional engineering organizations and universities.
Larry was active in men's and couples bowling leagues, golf leagues, the Grand Island NY Republican Club, and was a supporter of the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins where his children were competitive swimmers, and other sports activities that his grandchildren were active in. He has always made a concerted effort to balance his professional and private life.
Arrangements include a private cremation at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC. His cremains will be combined with the cremains of his late wife of 52½ years in a companion urn where they will become part of his estate.
