Larry R. Riggs

Larry R. Riggs, 86, of Concord, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, with his family by his side. He was born in Kannapolis on February 21, 1939, to the late John Green Riggs Sr and Mary Swicegood Riggs.

Larry married the love of his life, Nelda Lee Joyce on August 4, 1962, in Reidsville, North Carolina.

Larry worked in education for over 35 years. He was the principal at Odell Elementary School for 25 years. During his time as a teacher, he loved coaching the boys’ basketball teams at Hartsell School and Central Cabarrus and he was an avid deer hunter; he never missed opening day of deer hunting. He enjoyed being in the mountains and loved spending time with his family at their mountain home in Laurel Springs. He was a member of Beth Page Presbyterian Church for 50 years and served on various committees and was a deacon.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Nelda Riggs; his children, Alisa Riggs and Sean Riggs; his three grandchildren, Taylor (Savannah) Page, Hunter Page and Ashley Linker; his four great grandchildren, McCoy Linker, Harper Linker, Westin Page and River Page; his sister, Phyllis Upright; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Green Riggs Jr. and Earl Riggs and two sisters, Lamina Griffin and Mary Ann Gentle.

Larry’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Bethpage Presbyterian Church, 6020 Mooresville Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081. Private family services were held, and the burial was in the parish cemetery.

The family would like to thank Hospice for the care they showed Larry, especially Katherine, Makeyra and Amy.
