Kay Frances Hurst, 89, passed away on October 4, 2026, at South Mitchell Mack Hospice House. Born on August 17, 1937, in Cabarrus County, she lived a life centered on faith, family, and the deep joy of time shared with those she loved.
Mrs. Hurst was a founding member of Charity Baptist Church, a lasting reflection of her faith and commitment to her church family. She also served as a senior leader with JOY for 15 years, offering her time and presence in a way that touched many lives. She treasured her family with all her heart, and that devotion was felt in the steady love and care she gave throughout her life.
She found happiness in simple and meaningful pleasures. She loved traveling to Myrtle Beach and Florida, places that brought rest, enjoyment, and treasured memories. She also enjoyed playing cards with her girlfriends, sharing laughter, companionship, and the kind of friendship that brightens everyday life.
Kay will be lovingly remembered by her son, Timothy Readling and his wife, Jeninne; her daughter, Tamra Caldwell and her husband, Alan; and her children by marriage, Michael Hurst and his wife, Tonia, and Mercer Hurst and his wife, Stacey. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Ellington; her brothers, Charles Campbell and his wife, Jan, and Norman Campbell and his wife, Linda; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Kay was also fortunate enough to be blessed with 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren that she cherished deeply. Her family was the center of her life, and her love for them will remain a lasting gift.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Hurst; parents, Rufus and Bonnie Campbell; her sisters, Emily Cheek, Sylvia Beaver, and Dorris Campbell; and her brother, Jack Campbell.
A Celebration of Life will be held on October 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, North Carolina 28083. The service will be officiated by Pastor RJ Hammond and Pastor Corey Alley.
Kay Frances Hurst will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to family, her faithful service, and the warmth she brought to those around her. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
