Obituary

June Carol Melton, 84, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2026. Born on July 9, 1941, June was raised by her loving late parents, Walter and Mittie Wentz, in Concord, NC. June was married for 67 years to her beloved husband, George Everette Melton; together, they created a strong and loving family that she cherished deeply. June lived her entire life in Cabarrus County, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and devotion to those she loved.

Those left to cherish June’s memory are her two sons, Duane Melton (Valerie) and Brent Melton; her sisters, Tonya Ligon (Gene), Enola Gore (Gene), and Alice Faye Worley (Jack); her brother, Leslie Pruitt (Carol); her grandchildren, Jordan Karas (Matt), Michael Melton (Ashley), and Jonathan Melton; great-grandchildren Samuel and Isaac Melton, and Estelle and Emmelia Karas; and her many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. June was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mittie Wentz; her sister, Joan Steagall; and her brother, Steve Mears (and his widow, Vicki).

June was a faithful member of Young Memorial Baptist Church, where she found strength in her faith and community. A former member of First Baptist Church, June served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a volunteer at the Salvation Army of Cabarrus County as part of the Women’s Auxiliary. In her younger years, June shared her time helping young men from nearby schools learn to read.

A proud graduate of Concord High School, Class of 1959, June worked as a young woman at Chadbourn Hosiery Mill, where she served as office manager for ten years. June dedicated the remainder of her professional life to public service, retiring after 36 years with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles.

June loved to travel throughout the United States and other countries. Some of her fondest memories were traveling across the country with George. June was fiercely independent and never passed up the opportunity to travel with her dear friends or to visit family. June also loved to cook, with her family’s favorites including her country-style steak and homemade biscuits. June will be remembered as the most kind, caring, and giving individual, living her life with quiet determination and grace.

A service to celebrate June’s life will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Young Memorial Baptist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all family, friends, and members of Young Memorial Baptist for their love, prayers, and support during this time. June will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army of Cabarrus County or Young Memorial Baptist Church in June’s memory.
