John Clement Scercy

John Clement Scercy, 90, of Kannapolis, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at his home with family by his side. He was born January 20, 1934, to the late John S. and Nora Scercy in Rowan County.

John was a veteran of the US Army in the 1950’s. John married Betty Ruth Slough in 1956. He played baseball prior to going into the army and after. He played for a minor league team for the Cincinnati Reds. After starting his family, John worked at Lance Snack Company for 33 years, 31 of those years was driving truck.

John was an amazing baseball player. He loved all sports. As years went by, he loved playing golf. John was a people person; he loved being around people. John and Betty loved to entertain. Their last cook-out was with over 23 people.

Those to cherish his memory include his wife, Betty; his children, Kelly Dennis, Michael Scercy, David Scercy, Phillip Scercy and Linda Broughton; his three grandchildren, Carson Garvin, Madison Scercy and Jaxon Scercy; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Betty Knece and Barbara Hope.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 10, 2024, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at Whitley’s Funeral Home, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd. in Kannapolis for time of visitation. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 5:00 PM, with Rev. Dennis Craft officiating, in Whitley’s chapel.
