JoAnne Marcotte Young

JoAnne Marcotte Young, 77, of Concord, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 10, 2025. Born on June 15, 1948 in Longbranch, NJ, JoAnne was a cherished individual known for her loving, compassionate nature and her role as a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a dedicated care giver to special needs daughter Caren, you rarely saw one without the other. She was a friend to many, bringing joy and fun wherever she went. Her independence and stubborn spirit were hallmarks of her personality.

JoAnne graduated from Vilas High School in 1966 and spent her career working diligently as a weaver at Cannon Mills, and later at Wiscasset Mills and completed her career at Food Lion. Her colleagues remember her as dedicated, hard-working, reliable, and dependable. Beyond her professional life, JoAnne was a member of Bethel Church of Midland.

Her hobbies included avid reading, watching Hallmark movies, indulging in Tootsie Pops, enjoying her rose bushes, porch sitting and feeding birds and squirrels, ensuring they were "fat and sassy." These activities brought great joy to JoAnne and those who knew her.

JoAnne is survived by her daughter, Caren Young of Kannapolis, NC; son, Christopher E. and wife Tricia Young of North Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter Connie and husband Jamie Hill of Kannapolis, NC; grandsons, Christian E. Young of Concord, NC, and Andrew J. Hill of Kannapolis, NC; brother, Joe and wife Debbie Marcotte of Marlow, NH; and sister, Mary Hull; niece, Rebecca Hull of Sullivan, NH, and several nieces, nephews and cousins across the Northeast.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Charles Marcotte and Dorothy Elaine (Hoenge) Marcotte; former spouse Clyde Elliott Young and partner James “Hoppy” Green.

Services will be held on December 17, 2025, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis, NC. Visitation will take place from 3-5 PM followed by a memorial service at 5 PM. JoAnne will be buried at a later date in Marlow, NH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tucker Hospice House in honor of JoAnne's memory.

Whitley's Funeral Home of Kannapolis, NC, is assisting the family during this time.
