Joan C. Lowder, 84, of Concord, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 27, 1942, in Lancaster, South Carolina, to the late Hoyle and Madge Langford.
On August 27, 1961, Joan married the love of her life, Wade H. Lowder, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion, sharing 64 wonderful years of marriage.
Joan’s greatest pride and joy was her family. Being a devoted wife and mother meant everything to her, and she poured her heart into caring for those she loved. She was also a successful businesswoman and owner of Crown Personnel in Charlotte, where she built lasting relationships and earned the respect of clients and colleagues throughout the community.
Faith played a central role in Joan’s life from an early age. After retiring, she continued to live out her calling through a quiet but meaningful ministry—regularly reaching out through personal notes and supporting homebound individuals, offering companionship, encouragement, and prayer.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband, Wade Lowder; her three children, Jeff (Heidi) Lowder of Camden, South Carolina, Chris (Stephanie) Lowder of Concord, North Carolina, and Erika (John) Beattie of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; her four grandchildren, Davis Richards, Hayley Lowder, Harrison Lowder, and Maggie Lowder; her two brothers, Jimmy (Sandra) Langford and David Langford; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Glenda (Jim) Reder.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 601 Mt. Olivet Road, Kannapolis, North Carolina. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Jim Watford. Inurnment will take place immediately afterward in the Plaza Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Chris Lowder Scholarship Fund in memory of Joan Lowder. Contributions can be mailed to 1480 Saint Annes Court NW, Concord, NC 28027. The scholarship was a cause especially close to Joan’s heart, supporting current educators who are advancing their career and helping students pursue a college education.
