Jimmie Alexander Karriker, 85, of Mooresville passed away peacefully July 13, 2022 at the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury after a period of declining health.
Born on June 12, 1937 in Rowan Co., he was the son of the late Ervin and Margaret Chambers Karriker. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Frances Orbison Karriker, brothers, Paul, Jack, and Jerry Karriker, sisters Alice Bost, Ann McNeely, Hazel Karriker and Rachel Davis.
Jimmie is survived by his daughter Sherry Ellsworth (Gary Baker) of Kannapolis, his son Jeff Karriker (Candy) of Longs, SC. In addition his grandson Jonathan Ellsworth (Shannon) of China Grove, his great-grandchildren Andrew, Campbell Kate and Mary Katherine Frances Ellsworth who brought great joy to his life. He is also survived by his sisters Mary Ruth Owens (Jack), Carolyn Timms and Judy Curlee.
Pop (to his family) was known for his passion of farm tractors. He would spend hours in his shop rebuilding and tinkering to create his prize winning Allis Chalmers Model G. He and mom would travel to many tractor events across the southeast.
He also liked to vegetable garden. Every summer he and mom would create beautiful and abundant gardens which I (Sherry) had the privilege to help pick and home can. In his last active years Pop and I created a garden together growing a very large amount of heirloom peas, green beans and okra. For those who knew her it was our tribute to mom.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 16 at Back Creek Presbyterian Church in Mount Ulla, with Rev. Bill Thrailkill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful and dedicated hospice caregivers. Because of their loving and compassionate care our journey was a much easier one. Memorials can be sent to Atrium Hospice and Pallative Care of Cabarrus County or your hospice of choice.
We would also to thank those who were dedicated to the care of my our dad at the NC State Veterans Home of Salisbury.
