Jerry Wesley Garrett Jr. December 11, 1962 – April 16, 2025 Age 62 | Lexington, NC
Jerry Wesley Garrett Jr., lovingly known as Boo, Big Jer, J Dub, Jerry Garetti, Papaw Jerry, and Big Daddy (if you know, you know!), passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, in Salisbury, NC, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born on December 11, 1962, in Concord, NC, Jerry was the beloved son of the late Jerry Wesley Garrett Sr. and Karen Elaine Garrett, who survives him. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father.
Jerry was raised in Kannapolis, NC, and graduated from A.L. Brown High School—a true Wonder at heart, even though he proudly cheered on his children from the sidelines of the Raider stadium in the early 2000s. At the time of his passing, Jerry was pursuing a degree in Theology, a testament to his lifelong curiosity and deep faith.
He served his country honorably—first with four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and later with six years in the Army Airborne Reserves. His service extended to his community as well, working for the Kannapolis Police Department and its SWAT team. Jerry also contributed to the family business, Garrett Insulation and Extermination, and spent recent years in food sales, building lasting relationships wherever he went.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Deb Garrett, and their children: Keith Garrett (Courtney), Amber Hudson (Matt), and Emerald Midgett (Matt). He was a proud “Papa Jerry” to his grandchildren: Brayden(Tori), Blake(Megan), Breleigh, Gabe, Preston, Emma, Seth, Payton, Waylan, and Ellie—and great-grandfather to Kyson, a role that came with plenty of teasing from the family about his age.
He was the cherished big brother to Dorita Garrett and Mark Garrett, and a devoted pet parent to his fur babies: Lola, Ivy, Pearl, Gracie, Bella, Pete, and Stella.
A man of many passions, Jerry lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, cycling, scuba diving, traveling, music, and attending concerts. He was never shy about sharing his thoughts on Facebook—especially when it came to politics—and he loved engaging in lively conversations. But above all, his favorite moments were spent with family and friends. He was deeply proud of his loved ones and never missed an opportunity to let them know.
Jerry was one of a kind—loyal, passionate, funny, and full of heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Whitley’s Funeral Home on Monday, April 21.
