An ardent singer, Jerry shared his passion for music with the Piedmont Singing Men, where he not only performed but also interpreted songs in Sign Language. His talents extended to writing poetry and composing songs that reflected his strong Christian faith and deep love for family. A devout Christian, he cherished moments spent at the beach, listening to the ocean's soothing sounds, and enjoyed fishing with his beloved wife Lucy. Jerry was known for his wonderful sense of humor, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his son, Keith Ashley, and his brother, Billy Ashley. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Lucy Thacker Ashley; his stepson, Clay Hathaway and his wife, Aundrea; his daughter, Gina Beaver; his sister, Anita Mowery; and his cherished grandchildren: Kourtnie Hathaway, Justin Ashley, Amanda Ashley, Madison Ashley, Brandy Kimball, and Cody Shaver.
