Jeff “Sundrop” Carpenter, 59, of Kannapolis, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Tucker Hospice House.
Born in Cabarrus County to the late William Ralph Carpenter Sr. and Caroyl Winecoff Carpenter, Jeff lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and connection. To know Jeff was to know someone who would stop what he was doing to help a friend, neighbor, or complete stranger. He had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for.
Many knew him simply as “Sundrop.” The nickname fit him perfectly because if you knew Jeff, you knew there was almost always a Sundrop nearby… in his hand, tucked in his pocket, riding in the truck, or waiting for later. It became such a part of who he was that over time, “Jeff” turned into “Sundrop” to so many who loved him.
Jeff found freedom and joy riding motorcycles and was proud to be involved with the Steel Legion Motorcycle Club. He also enjoyed staying connected through CB radio communities, including Rag City Radio, where he built friendships and shared countless conversations. He loved the outdoors and found peace simply just being outside.
His presence was steady, his heart was big, and his love for his family ran deep. Though his absence leaves an incredible ache, the memories, stories, laughter, and lessons he leaves behind will continue to live on.
Jeff was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Carpenter, and daughters, Robyn Carpenter and Michelle Wilson.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Michelle Carpenter; his children: Jeffrey Brown Carpenter II (Jada), Carrie Wilson, Kasey Hinson (Cody), Jennifer Wood (Matt), Bryson Deaton (Tori), and Weston Carpenter; seven grandchildren: Richard and Antalya Carpenter, Khloe and Lila White, Jaydyn Beaver, Norah and Margo Deaton; his brother, Ralph Carpenter; sisters, Crystal Lear and Angel Carpenter; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members. Jeff also treasured his dear friends Jimmy James and Linda King.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at a later date.
In honor of Sundrop’s life and generous spirit, memorial donations may be made to the Church of God Children’s Home, 3485 Weatherby Circle, Concord, NC 28027.
Keep moving forward- just like he did. His love, his stories, and a cold sundrop will keep bringing him back to us in the moments that matter most.
