Janet “Sue” Perry Sutherland, age 83, of China Grove went to her heavenly home on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from her earthly residence after a period of declining health.
A funeral service will be held at Canaan Baptist Church on Friday, June 19 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Bruce Graham officiating. Burial will follow at Big Flatts Baptist Church Cemetery in Fleetwood NC at 3 :00 PM. The family will receive friends at Whitley’s Funeral Home on Thursday, June 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Sue was born on May 23, 1943, in Cabarrus Co. A daughter of the late Mr. Lydia Perry and Mrs. Georgia Blevins Perry. In addition to her parents, Sue was also preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Wade Sutherland, Sr., her son, Randy Sutherland, her daughter in law, Judy Sutherland, her brothers, Dallas and Thurman Perry and her sister, Tharon Miller.
Sue was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Canaan Baptist Church. In earlier years Sue worked for Cannon Mills, then stayed at home to raise her 4 children. Later she went to work for the Kannapolis City Schools in the Cafeteria until she retired. Sue enjoyed Crocheting and knitting, singing for nursing home residence, scrapbooking, traveling and just caring for her family. She will be dearly missed by her family.
Those who remain to cherish her memory include her children; Kenny Sutherland, Sr. and friend, Sherri of Mooresville, Wanda S. Broadway (Mark) of China Grove, Angie S. Hodge (Brian) of Kannapolis and daughter-in-law Kim Sutherland of China Grove; her beloved grandchildren, Kenny Sutherland, Jr. (Brandy) of China Grove, Hannah Black (Brent) of Kannapolis, Amber Bishop (Jamie) of Mt. Ula and Ashley Baker of China Grove. She was the proud great-grandmother of Bentley, Olivia, Monroe and Amelia. She is also survived by her 3 sisters; Jean Knowles, Kay Johnson, Mae Stirewalt and her brother, Ronnie Perry and her Lifetime Best Friend, Dee Carter, AKA “Lucy” to her Ethel.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of Via Hospice for all the loving care shown to Sue and family.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be sent to Canaan Baptist Church. Whitley’s Funeral Home is serving the Sutherland family
