James Hubert Woodie, 89, of Landis, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025, with family by his side. He was born on March 31, 1936, to the late James and Bessie Billings Woodie in Landis, NC.

James married Phyllis Wilhoit on January 1, 1958. She preceded him in death on April 15, 2008. James married Linda Wright on March 21, 2014.

James retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of honorable service between 1953 and 1973. His time served included active participation in the Korean War, and the Suez, Cuban, and Dominican Republic conflicts. He then worked for Forbo Siegling LLC until he retired a second time in 2001.

James enjoyed woodworking and drawing, constantly showering his family with his artistic creations. Above all, James loved his time spent with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Woodie; his daughters, Lisa Carol Woodie of Salisbury, Cindy Woodie Walling (Mark) of High Point and Marie Ann Woodie Corriher (Frank) of China Grove; his sons, Brian Keith Woodie (Janie) of China Grove and Larry Craig Woodie of Mooresville; his sister, Martha Woodie Frick of Kannapolis; 12 grandkids; 20 great grandkids and four great-great grandkids. He is further survived by his stepchildren, Brenda Kluttz Shuffler (Terry) of Salisbury, Donna Kluttz Church (Jason) of Kannapolis, Sherri Kluttz Lutz (James) of Salisbury and James William Kluttz of Salisbury; six step grandkids and three step great grandkids; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis; his parents, Jim and Bessie Woodie; his brother, Robert Dean Billings and his sister Ruby Woodie Ball.

The family will receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 12:00 pm in Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel with Preacher Adrian Hendren, grandson, officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
