James “David” O’Neal, 79, of Kannapolis, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at his home.

David was born August 31, 1946, in Darlington County, South Carolina to the late Evander John Henry O’Neal and the late Verily Ellen Johnson O’Neal.

He was also preceded in death by wife, Linda Page O’Neal; son, James “Danny Boy” O’Neal; and siblings, Cricket Critchlow, Payton O’Neal, William O’Neal, Billy O’Neal, Steve O’Neal, Margaret O’Neal, Elaine Tucker, and Janice O’Neal.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. – 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Whitley's Funeral Home. The graveside service will follow on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1350 S Main St, China Grove. Burial will immediately follow.

Survivors include son, Darrell Eugene O’Neal; siblings, Carl O’Neal, Lindell Troutman, Faye Ahlers, and Cindy Sartain (Roger); nephew, (Tracey) Shaun Lacks; and many other nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

David was well known in the community as the owner of Enochville Garage and a mechanic in the Kannapolis area for over 60 years.
