James Leroy Misenheimer, 89, of Kannapolis, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026 at Kannapolis Family Care Home.
He was born October 19, 1936, in Rowan County to the late Robert Lee Misenheimer and Lonie Creola Brooks Misenheimer.
James worked full time in Cannon Mills on 3rd shift, bagged groceries at Winn-Dixie part time, while also working part time for Roadway Express until hired full time. He enjoyed his trucking career for over 25 years and post-retirement, he drove a dump truck for Melton Contractors. He loved fishing from the pier at the beach, going to Faith 4th of July celebrations and any event that involved his grandchildren. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger. He also enjoyed gospel music and traveling with his wife, Nancy of 71 years. Trips included Hawaii, Wyoming and always going to the beach. Their favorite travel destination was Branson, MO. He loved his family and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by a brother Fred Wayne Misenheimer.
Those left to cherish his memories: his wife Nancy Benfield Misenheimer, Son Virgil Misenheimer and wife, Tammy, three grandchildren, Kristen M. Altamirano, Andrew Misenhiemer and wife Julie, Matthew Misenheimer and wife Lindsay, eight great-grandchildren: Cooper, Taryn, Ava, Rebekah, Marissa, Laurel, Beau and Archer.
Funeral service will be at 11am, Monday October 12, 2026, at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Franks and Andrew Misenheimer officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Monday at Whitley's Funeral Home.
