Irene Pittman of Kannapolis, NC, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28th, after a battle with dementia.
Born on June 3rd, 1933 to Clint and Emma Morrow, Irene loved caring for her family, singing gospel music, and playing the piano and accordion. She was a founding member of the Gospel Echo’s and traveled, singing with them for many years. She worked for Cannon Mills for several years and then became a homemaker and care giver. She loved crocheting and supplied the local children’s clothing store, Nita’s with her beautiful homemade baby items. She also loved to paint and cook.
Irene was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her son, Doug Pittman of Salisbury, and Daughter Kathy Haas (Roger) of Kannapolis. Her five grandchildren were her pride and joy, Melissa Saul (Robert) of Salisbury, Brad Axsom (Angela) of Florida, Angela Thompson (John) of Concord, Jennifer Waldecker (Ken) of High Point, and Clint Pittman of Florida. She had five great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmore Pittman, and brother Clinton Morrow.
A one hour visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2 at Whitley’s Funeral Home at 12:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park.
