Hugh "Carl" Carlyle Short

Hugh “Carl” Carlyle Short, 75, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025.

Carl was born on March 14, 1950, in Gaston County. He was a cherished son of Betty Hill Short and the late Earl Short. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew McCall.

Carl honorably served the United States and retired from the Air Force. He was a lifelong Washington Redskins fan and enjoyed going to the mountains. Carl will be dearly missed by all who knew him,

Those left to cherish his memory in addition to his mother, include his loving wife, Joan Sawyer Short; children, Patricia, Jessica (Larry), Veronica and Tommy; step-son, Darryl Fox (Tammy); brother, Rodney; sisters, Wendy and Tiny; Carl was also blessed with 14 grandchildren and 17great grandchildren.
