Henry Hampton Land a resident of Kannapolis died peacefully at his home December 19, 2024. He was 82.

He was born April 7, 1942 in Winston-Salem, NC. to the late Jack Robert and Nannie Alma Land.

He was a graduate of R. J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, graduating at the top of his class with a perfect score on the SAT. He attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC and graduated with a Degree in Business Administration and Accounting with honors. He was an avid Pirate Club Member of East Carolina University and loved attending football games as long as his health allowed. If he could have survived through December 28th, he would have been excited to see ECU play NC State in the Go Bowling Military Bowl. GO PIRATES!

Mr. Land was employed by Cannon Mills Company for twenty-two years in numerous management positions, including Assistant Controller. During his employment with Cannon Mills, Mr. Land completed his Certified Public Accountant Exam. He also served with the Concord National Guard Armory for six years.

In 1988, Mr. Land joined as a Partner with McClary, Stocks, Smith & Land CPA Accounting Firm until his retirement. He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Kannapolis, NC. He held numerous positions at his church including Treasurer of the Darrell Hinnant Sunday School Class for fifty-two years, Treasurer of the Church for 20 years, Church Council Treasurer, Finance Committee and Treasurer of Investment Fund Team. In his younger years at Trinity, he enjoyed playing on the softball team. In the community, Mr. Land served on the Board for the Bank of the Carolinas in Concord, Cabarrus Charter Academy and also Kannapolis YMCA Board.

His main interest was genealogy and he spent many years and did meticulous documentation and compilation of the Jones Family, his maternal side of family. His other interest included his great love in all history, especially the Civil War. His happiest times was when he had the opportunity to visit Williamsburg, Va and Jamestown.

Mr. Land is preceded in death by his son, David Christopher Land. Survivors include his former wife and mother of his only child, Shirley Land Christy and his two dogs, Mister and Sandy. Cousins are Carol Wilkins Jones, Cindy Jones, Sally Norman Jones and Marva Reid Williard, all of Winston-Salem, NC

Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 3101 S. Cannon Boulevard, Kannapolis, NC - Intersection of Hwy US 29 and I-85.

The service will be conducted by Reverend Jim Watford of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC. Interment will follow in the Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery. Whitley's Funeral Home will be serving the family of Mr. Land.

 A special "thank you" is extended to all caregivers, hospice staff, pallbearers and wonderful neighbors and friends that were there to assist with Mr. Land's health in his final days. Your love and kindness and support will never be forgotten by Mr. Land's family.
