The world lost a gentle soul on May 23, 2026, when Harriet Mae Hofmann passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 98. Born on October 14, 1927, in the small town of Scribner, Nebraska, Harriet was the daughter of Harry and Agnes Furstenau. She was a beloved sister to Rose, Burnell, Wallace, and Jayne, all of whom she has now joined in eternal rest.

Her journey began in the heart of Nebraska, where she first embraced the values of hard work and kindness. After graduating from high school, she ventured into the working world, first as a waitress and later at companies like Pepperidge Farm, Frito Lay, and Ingram Construction. Throughout her career, Harriet was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.

A woman of many talents, Harriet found joy in the intricate art of needlepoint, crafting pieces that were in the homes of her loved ones. She gracefully transitioned to crocheting, creating cherished mementos that continue to warm the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her hands were never idle, especially when she learned of a need for baby blankets at local hospitals, which she lovingly crafted with great care.

Harriet's sense of humor and quick wit were her trademarks, bringing laughter and joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her one-liners were legendary, and her ability to find humor in everyday situations made her a treasured companion to many.

As a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church, her church community was a source of joy, especially during her weekly golf games and water aerobics sessions with friends. Her organizational skills shone brightly when she took charge of catering and other arrangements for annual golf tournaments, ensuring that every event was a success.

Harriet was predeceased by her beloved parents, siblings, her son Alan, and her husbands, Rudy Hofmann and Eli Ingram. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength in her surviving family: her children, Ron (Cathy) and Mark (Diana); her grandchildren, Kimberly, Mark Jr., Stephanie, and Michelle; and her great-grandchildren, Sommer, Autumn, Luke, and Josie. Each of them carries a piece of Harriet's spirit and kindness in their hearts.

A celebration of Harriet's life will be held on May 27, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. visitation will be from 6:00pm to 7:00pm at Whitley's Funeral Home, located at 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083. On May 28th there will be a 2:00 graveside service held at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway, Athens, Ga 30606.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice Health & Palliative Care Cabarrus, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 in honor of the compassionate care Harriet received in her final days. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord, Bayada, Fox Therapy, and Hospice Care Cabarrus for their unwavering support and kindness.

Harriet Mae Hofmann will be dearly missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and service will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace, forever remembered and forever loved.
