Hardin Darrell Young Jr., 77, of China Grove, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.
Darrell was born on May 4, 1946 in Watauga County, NC to the late Hardin Darrell Young Sr. and Pauline Almond Young.
Darrell graduated from West Palm Beach High School in 1964 and then attended West Palm Beach Community College. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy and Reserves for six years. After his service in the military, he worked as a lineman for Southern Bell and AT&T for 32 years before retiring.
Darrell led a life filled with fun and fellowship. Beginning in Florida and throughout his life he enjoyed outdoor sporting activities, backpacking and hiking, sailing, boating, motorcycle riding, camping and horseback riding. He was a member of the American Mountain Men for many years. He attended New Hope Lutheran Church and the Men’s Fellowship Group. He loved the beach and for many years shared fellowship at the beach with friends. Darrell embraced North Carolina from the mountains to the sea and enjoyed everything our farm had to offer, especially the sunsets. He had many beloved pets through the years with Emma Jean being his most recent companion. Most of all, he treasured his relationship with his son Tristom.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 38 years, Deborah Patterson Young of China Grove, NC; son, Tristom Young and his wife Sara of Asheville, NC; two brothers, Paul Young and wife Karen of Chapin, SC, and David Young of Boone NC; two nieces, Heather and Kendle and their families; brother-in-law, Phillip Patterson and wife Ryane and their family, and numerous other friends from throughout the years.
Services will remain private at this time.
