“Guy” Norman Towell, Sr., age 89, of Harrisburg died Monday, October 28, 2024, peacefully at Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health.
Funeral services to celebrate Guy’s life will be held at Whitley’s Funeral Home on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jeffrey Rushing officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour prior. Burial with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park Harrisburg.
Guy was born July 26, 1935, in Rowan Co., a son of the late Onie C. and Bernice Cook Towell. Guy was a lifelong area resident and longtime member of Westford Methodist Church in Concord. He graduated from A.L. Brown High School and enlisted in the US Airforce from 1952 to 1968, serving during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and in the Air and Army National Guards upon getting out of the Airforce. Guy went to work for the US Post Office as a mail carrier for many years following his military career. He loved flying his plane and loved spending summer at Cape Cod with his wife. He was a hard-working man who served his country and his community, loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Guy was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Paul Towell, his daughter, Tammy Roxanne Towell, his brother, Onie Clinton Towell and his great-grandson, Hunter Towell. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor Hill Towell of the home, his sons; Guy “Norman” Towell, Jr. (Carolyn) of Rockwell, David Daniel Towell (Ellen) of Gastonia and his daughters; Elizabeth Gaynell Starnes (Johnny) of Kannapolis, Carrie Frances Callahan (Chris) of Rockwell, Teresa Towell Tabaczynski, RN and (Thomas Tabaczynski, SMSgt Reserve) of Michigan, Starla June Ruff (Jaime) of Vale, NC and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
