During his working years, Grady was a well-loved butcher at Table Supply for 25 years and he completed his career at Food Lion for 40+ years. He courageously served in Vietnam from 1968-1970 as a helicopter gunman in the Big Red 1, First Infantry Division, First Aviation Brigade. He flew over 25 missions in hostile territory and received 6 medals, which included a Bronze Star and an Army Commendation Medal. Grady served his community and church by being a life member of the American Legion Post 115 and a dedicated member of Midway United Methodist Church.
Grady adored his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Zach and Julie. He was an astute wood worker and enjoyed making seasonal wood figurines. He was an avid gardener and had a large vegetable garden that he tended with care. He loved sharing his vegetables with friends, neighbors, and family. Grady was a kind soul that brought joy to everyone he met. He had a contagious laugh, offered help easily and often, always encouraged others, worked hard and fully enjoyed life. His greatest accomplishment was his family of whom he was so proud. He adored his wife, Cynthia, and enjoyed sitting outside in the yard on sunny days admiring their flowers and garden. He will be missed but left a strong legacy of how to live life to the fullest.
