George E. Ellis

George Ellis, 73, passed away on October 17, 2025, in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Born on September 13, 1952, in Worcester, Massachusetts, George lived a life marked by service, creativity, and warmth.

A proud veteran, George served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. His dedication to duty and country was a defining chapter in his life and reflected the strength of character that those who knew him came to admire.

George had a deep appreciation for the world around him and expressed it through a variety of hobbies. He found joy in reading and drawing, pursuits that spoke to his thoughtful and imaginative nature. He also had a passion for rockhounding—searching for and collecting rocks and minerals—a hobby that combined his love of nature with curiosity and patience. His skills in carpentry and mechanics were evident in the care he took with each project, while his talent at the grill made him a welcome presence at any gathering.

Those closest to George remember him as warm, light-hearted, and loving. His sense of humor and generous spirit left lasting impressions on all who spent time with him.

George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria Ellis; his father, William Ellis Sr.; his mother, Mildred Ellis; and his brother, William Ellis Jr. He is survived by his son Jae Neal; sisters Joyce Henning and Judy Lawton; as well as many nieces and nephews who will carry forward memories of their time with him.

In accordance with his final wishes, George gifted himself to Duke University’s School of Medicine—a final act of generosity that reflects the selflessness he demonstrated throughout his life.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
