George Michael “Mike” Cress, 75, of Concord, went home to his Lord and Savior on March 16, 2026.
Mike was born on December 11, 1950, to George D. Cress and Sara Bradford Cress. He worked in the cotton mill where he met his wife, Janice Alexander Cress. They spent 50 years together until she left for heaven in 2019. After the cotton mill he painted for McGowen Painting Contractors.
Mike was known for his gruff exterior but his tender heart. He loved spending his days on his Harley and in the yard with his grandchildren. He was very artistic and loved to paint and play guitar. Mike loved gathering with his church families at Church of God of Prophecy and Shiloh Church of Concord.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Sunny Cress Young (Jason); daughter in-law, Jennifer Cress; grandchildren, Victoria Broome (Bryan), Amber Dalton (Cami), Cheyenne Candow, Kayla Higdon, Michael Cress, Sarah Dalton, Savannah Cress and his baby boy, his pride and joy, Travis Young; step grandchildren, Wade Groover, Abigail Groover, Patience Groover, Jennifer Benton, and Justin Young; brothers, Phil Ray, Jimmy and John Cress; sisters, Dixie Billings and Sara Drye; and his childhood best friend, Jerry Owens.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, his half siblings Gerald Cress and Ann Erwin Cress; his son, George Michael “Mikey” Cress Jr. and his wife, Janice Alexander Cress; and step granddaughter, Hanna Young.
He will be missed tremendously by those who loved and knew him.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Shiloh Church of Concord. Burial will be private at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
The family will be receiving at his daughters home next to his home.
