Obituary: Gene Craig Matlock, age 76, of Kannapolis passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the Levine Dickson Hospice House. Gene was born October 7, 1940 in Alexander County, NC a son of the late James Dwight Matlock and Bera Keever Matlock. Hiddenite High School graduate. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for Galvin Industries. He received certificates from North Carolina State at Raleigh for Preventative Maintenance and from the North Carolina Industrial Convention for Accident Prevention. Mr. Matlock was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church. He was an automobile enthusiast and loved sports especially racing. He loved spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 57 years Carolyn Daniels Matlock ; sons Randy Matlock (Shanna) of Landis and Marty Matlock of Kannapolis; grandchildren Jessie Matlock, Brandi Fortson and Spencer Matlock; great-granddaughter Lacey Fortson; brother Roger Matlock of Hiddenite; sisters Joy Stillman and Nancy Mesmore both of Hiddenite. Visitation: 1-2:00 PM Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Whitley's Funeral Home with service following at 2:00 PM at Whitley's Chapel conducted by Rev. Chris O'Guinn with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Memorials: North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust St., Kannapolis, NC 28081. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the Matlock family.
