Born on August 18, 1946, in Rowan County, Gary was the son of the late Arow McThay Garmon and Deemy Iola Beaver Garmon. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War. Gary earned an associate’s degree in Environmental Studies from Rowan Technical School.

Known for his classic one-liner responses, he was a unique individual who showed deep compassion for others and cared deeply for the well-being of animals of all kinds. Gary’s kindness and distinctive spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Linda Sue Garmon, and siblings Peggy Farlow (Don), Barbara Copeland (Bill), Phyllis Seymore, Stephen Garmon, and brother-in-law Cecil Keller.
Gary is lovingly remembered by his sister Betty Keller; brothers Jesse Garmon (Bobbie) and John Garmon (Debbie); brother-in-law Alex Seymore; sister-in-law Cathy Garmon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor Gary’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at North Kannapolis Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Joy Garman and Rev. Jessie Garmon officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at the church.
