Ferlon Eugene “Bub” Benton, 80, of Kannapolis, formerly of Concord, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Atrium Health – Cabarrus after a period of declining health.
Services for Bub will be held on Thursday, March 5, at Whitley’s Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM; his funeral will be held at 11:00 AM in Whitley’s Chapel, with Rev. Tim McQueen officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be conducted at the Salisbury National Cemetery Annex in Salisbury at 2:30PM on Thursday, March 5.
Bub was born February 5, 1946, in Concord, NC, a son of the late James Reece Benton and Betty Burris Benton. In addition to his parents, Bub was also preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Cook and Darlene Tucker, and his brother, Joe Benton.
Bub was a lifelong area resident, raised in Concord and graduated from Harrisburg School, Class of 1965. He was promptly drafted into the US Marine Corps. Bub married his sweetheart, Linda McGuire and moved to Kannapolis. In early years, he owned his own mechanics shop, “Bub’s Automotive” in Rowan County and later he worked as an offline mechanic at Freightliner in Salisbury, retiring in 2009. Bub was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for 60+ years while serving as a Deacon, Security, Youth, RA’s, Usher, Greeter, and Senior Adult Ministry for 10 years. Bub owned many “old” cars through the years and loved cruise ins with friends. He and Linda loved to travel and go camping.
Bub is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda McGuire Benton of the family home, his son, Brian Benton of Kannapolis and his three grandchildren, Ian, Luke and Ava Benton and his sister Debbie Little (David) of Harrisburg, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Whitley’s Funeral Home is serving the Benton family. Memorial donations can be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association – Western Carolina Chapter @ 225 N Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
