Ercelia Johnston

Ercelia Diaz Johnston, 85, of Davidson, NC, previously from Key West, FL, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025.

Ercelia was born on February 18, 1940, in Key West, Florida. She was a cherished daughter of the late Frank Diaz and Geraldine Alfonso Koehn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edgar Lee Johnston Sr.; her great grandson, Henry Hutson; brother, Orlando “Landy” Diaz, and her uncle and aunt, Edward and Ruby Koehn.

Ercelia was a proud fifth-generation Conch born and raised from Key West.

She enjoyed listening to Elvis, watching old movies, and spending time on her favorite crafts like sewing and crocheting. She also loved to garden and always had something blooming around her home.

Animals held a special place in her heart. She never turned away a stray cat or any animal in need, always offering food, care, and love. Ercelia will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Sharon Angelastri (Joe), Lynn OConnor, and Edgar Lee Johnston Jr. (Sharon); grandchildren, Monica Garcia, Anthony Diamandi Jr., Rachel Garcia, and Ashley Angelastri; great-grandchildren, Tony, August, William, Axl, Christopher, Audrey, Dez, and Nico. Ercelia was also blessed with numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Gilwood Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Rev. Kaity Sloan officiating.
