Edward Patrick Ruane of Kannapolis, NC died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. He was 79 years old. Ed was born on April 4, 1944, in the Bronx, NY.
Ed attended Andrew Jackson High School and graduated in 1961 and married Linda Ruane. Together, Ed and Linda had 5 children, Eddie, Sissy, Brian, Kimberly, and Jennifer. They divorced in 1991 and Ed was re-married to Geraldine Paro in 2007. Ed worked as a construction worker and as a “tin-knocker” and even owned his own business for 20 years in siding, roofing, and commercial windows. He named his company after Ambassador College, calling it “Ambassador Roofing and Siding. Ed was baptized on April 4, 1970 and was a faithful member of the Living Church of God. He was beloved by the local congregations and served God’s people as head of security for many years. A unique soul, Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and was extremely generous, especially with his baked ziti. He used to make his own wine and even raised homing pigeons in his late teens. He especially enjoyed fishing, cooking, and hunting with his son Brian. He will be deeply missed.
Ed is survived by his wife, Gerri Ruane and his children Eddie Ruane, Sissy (Joey) Cataldo, Brian (Sandra) Ruane, Kimberly (Rob) Ford, and Jennifer Ruane and two step-sons, Kurt Bonacker and Eric Bonacker. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Amanda, JoAnne, Joey Jr., Brayden, Christian, Clara, Jackson, and Mia and 5 great grandchildren Ari, Patrick, Kora, Penelope, and Joseph. Ed is also survived by his brother Jimmy Ruane and predeceased by his brother Dennis Ruane.
A memorial service organized by Whitley Funeral Home will be held in the Annex building on April 16, 2023 located at 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis, NC 28083. The family will have visitation from 3pm – 4pm and the memorial service will be from 4pm – 5pm in the same building. Mr. Paul Shumway will be officiating the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to the Living Church of God in Charlotte, NC.
