Dorothy Ruth Weast

Dorothy Ruth Kluttz Weast, 97, a longtime resident of the Rimer community in Cabarrus county, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Brookdale Concord Senior Living. Dot was married for 75 years to the late Albert Graham Weast and was the only daughter of the late Keller Spencer Kluttz and Zelma Elizabeth Safrit Kluttz of Kannapolis, NC. Left to cherish her memory is her four sons and spouses: Philip (Keith) of Asheville, NC; Kenneth (Carol) of Hendersonville, NC; Ben (Beth) of Durham, NC; and John (Cathy) of Concord, NC; six grandchildren (Emily Willis, Robbie Weast, Leigha Hemann, Rachel Goodman, Melanie Belt, and Margo Weast); and seven great grandchildren (Yuri, Kate, Lilliya, Sophia, Austin, Keller and Michael).

Dot was a devoted mother who supported her sons’ educational ambitions and careers and a caring grandmother who gave the grandchildren and great grandchildren loving support and knowledge about life, not to mention the always available snacks, Fat Boys, and Ice Pops. Dot enjoyed and appreciated good food and conversation. She told wonderful stories and enjoyed doing so. She regaled family and friends with stories of the farm, family ancestors and changes in the community over her lifetime. She particularly cherished her conversations with her sons during early morning coffee as she had her toasted cherry turnover! Dot was also an attentive listener.

Possessed with a keen intellectual curiosity and quick wit, Dot was a lifetime learner. Armed with her computer, iPad, and remote control, she explored the world at her fingertips when she could no longer travel. She was a fan of Rick Steves, NOVA, and her favorite In the Heat of the Night! Dot enjoyed the rhythm of life on the farm. She would note how the hawk had agitated the bluebirds and she loved the peaceful movement of the cows at dusk. She watched the deer nibble the tender new corn plants in the spring and the last kernels of corn in the autumn. She adored Dallas—the family dog—and rewarded his loyal presence with the best of dog treats.

In her work, Dot was an office manager for OBGYN Drs. Monroe and Jones for many years. She was a good neighbor, always helping others in need and looking to lend a hand. Dot possessed a strong faith and was a dedicated, lifelong member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. She served on many church committees including being the first woman to be elected Vice Chair of the church executive council. She especially cared about youth and supported a number of church sponsored youth development programs including serving as Cub Scout Den Mother for several years and raising funds to send kids to summer youth camps. The family wishes to thank Ms. Betty Gray for her caring devotion to Dot during her last year at home. A special thank you to Dr. John Turner for his compassionate medical care and to Mr. Blake Schooley and the staff of Brookdale Concord for their assistance in helping Dot transition to their facility.

A funeral service will be held at 3pm on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. Following the service, her ashes will be interred in the Cross of Christ cemetery during a brief graveside gathering. Afterward, the family will greet and speak with friends in the church Parish Hall. The family asks that memorial donations be made to the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church Endowment Fund, 4500 Rimer Rd, Concord, NC 28025.
