Dorothy (Dottie) Ann Westmoreland Milstead was born January 2, 1954 in Charlotte, NC at Presbyterian Hospital where she would later graduate as a Registered Nurse. She grew up the 4th daughter of the late Kenneth (Ken) Alexander Westmoreland and Sarah Elizabeth (Lib) Oehler Westmoreland on their North Mecklenburg County dairy farm where she worked in the milk barn and the fields with her dad, began learning her skills as a cook and seamstress under the tutelage of her mother, and drove a school bus for North Mecklenburg County Schools. She later completed a BSN at UNC Charlotte, and worked in a variety of nursing roles including geriatric and convalescent care, intensive care, cardiac care, family practice, nursing instruction of LPN and RN students, critical infants in the home, home health, and finally as a School Health Nurse in Rowan County Schools. She was also active for many years in the United Methodist Church where she sung in the choir and was an active member of the United Methodist Women by whom she was awarded her lifetime membership pin. She also on several occasions supported campers as a nurse at the United Methodist Camp Tekoa in Hendersonville, NC. She passed away on Sunday July 20th, 2025.

Dottie was also preceded in death by 2 of her sisters born twins– Margaret Jean who died when 1 day old and Jane Elizabeth Welch (Bill).

She is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Westmoreland Mauney (Paul) of Knightdale, NC and their son Christopher. She was married for many years to George Milstead and is survived by their daughter Mary Elizabeth (Mary Beth) Milstead Waltman (Nick) of Camden, NC. In addition, she is survived by many cousins from both her mother and fathers families.

Arrangements: Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis, NC. A visitation will be at Whitley's, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis, NC 28083, on Saturday the 26th at 1PM. A service will follow in Whitley’s chapel at 2PM. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the UNC Charlotte School of Nursing as this is where Dottie received her BSN degree.
