Doris Dixon Mellons, 90, of Kannapolis passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Doris was born October 10, 1932 in Chesterfield County, S.C. a daughter of the late Cord and Alice Elizabeth Odom Dixon. In addition to her parents: she was preceded in death by her first husband, H.L. Dixon who died in 1986 and her second husband, James Mellons who died in 2010.
She retired from Cannon Mills as a weaver in Plant #4 with 40 years of service. She enjoyed reading, and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Maureen Palmer. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. At other times they will be at the residence.
Family members left to cherish her memory include one son, Johnnie Dixon (Tikki) of Fuquay-Varina, five daughters; Joyce Cox (David) of Corryton, Tn., Peggy Broadway (C.T.) of Concord, Phyllis Sellers (Mike) of China Grove, Teresa Brines (Maurice) of Concord, and Gail Pierce (Kevin) of Stanfield. She is also survived by two sisters; Shirley Wayne of South Carolina and Carol West of Kannapolis and one brother Everette Dixon of Kannapolis. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren.
