Donald Preston Lazenby

October 2, 1962 – December 22, 2024

Donald "Don" Preston Lazenby was a kind, loving, and devoted family man who brought warmth and joy to everyone he met. Born on October 2, 1962, to Evelyn Cassel Lazenby and Henry Brown Lazenby in Kannapolis, NC, Don grew up with a strong sense of family and community. He was a beloved brother to Janis Lazenby and Ann Bennett, who survive him.

Don excelled both on and off the field in his youth. He played basketball and baseball throughout high school and was known for his dedication and sportsmanship. After graduating from AL Brown High School, Don pursued higher education at Wingate University, earning a degree in Parks and Recreation, reflecting his love for the outdoors and connecting with people.

A talented musician, Don could play drums, guitar, bass, and piano. He performed in a variety of bands, from church groups to rock bands, and was a proud member of his high school band. His passion for music brought joy to those around him and left a lasting legacy of creativity and expression.

An avid outdoorsman, Don found peace and excitement in fishing. Whether it was saltwater or freshwater, he especially loved striper fishing in North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia, creating cherished memories with lifelong friends along the way.

Don dedicated an incredible 40 years to the United Parcel Service (UPS). He took to heart his father’s advice to "find a job, stick with it, and just get out there and make some money." His work ethic and friendly demeanor made him beloved by those on his delivery routes, and he found great satisfaction in serving his community.

Family was the cornerstone of Don’s life. He was a proud father to Kasey Lazenby Hill (born 1987) and Joshua Isaac Lazenby (born 1990), raising his two children alongside their mother, Dee. He loved his son-in-law, Douglas Mike Hill, and daughter-in-law, Brittany McHone Lazenby, as if they were his own, cherishing the bond they shared. Don was an adoring "Paw" to his grandchildren: Maddox Grey Hill, Andi Rae Hill, Colt Preston Lazenby, and Clay Micah Lazenby. His unwavering love, compassion, and support profoundly shaped the lives of his family.

Don’s life was filled with special moments, including walking his daughter Kasey down the aisle, standing as the best man in his son Joshua’s wedding, and celebrating the births of his grandchildren. A particularly cherished memory was a fishing trip where he fell into six feet of cold, muddy water while lifting his trolling motor. True to his character, Don laughed it off, turning the moment into a story that brought smiles to everyone.

Donald "Don" Preston Lazenby was a man who lived life with passion, kindness, and an enduring sense of humor. His legacy of love and positivity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but always celebrated by his family, friends, and community.
